Obituary

Marlyn E. Gorden, age 88, of Tulsa, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Brookdale Assisted Living Broken Arrow after a long illness. He was born September 22nd, 1929 in Halfway, MO, the son of Burt Calvin and Lois Ann (Brown) Gorden. He married Bertie Lou Hamilton, November 11, 1955, of Springfield, MO where they resided until moving to Tulsa, OK in 1985. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bernell Gorden, Okell Gorden, and Lyle Gorden along with sisters Phillis Ragsdale and Felcie Gorden. He is survived by his wife, Bertie Gorden, son Doug Gorden and wife Paula, daughter Cindy Gruver and husband Bob, and grandson Andy Gruver. He had a long career in education and retired from the Springfield School District as Principal at Sunshine Elementary School just prior to coming to Tulsa where he and his wife had a retail business, Buck Stove Home Energy Center for 30 years. He enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and followed Missouri Tigers football. Although, his real joy came, as shown by his strong Christian faith, with being generous to everyone he came in contact with. We will truly miss him, but know his joy is now complete in the presence of the Lord. Graveside Services will be Thursday, May 24th at 2:00 p.m. in Ft. Gibson National Cemetery with military honors.
