Martha Lee Huston Hoefling, of Broken Arrow, passed away Sept 20th 2022, after a brief illness. She was born Sept. 6, 1928, in Erie, KS, to John and Sylvia Huston, and was raised in Parsons, KS. She was married in 1953 to Raymond James Hoefling Jr., and to this union three children were born: Larry Joseph, Linda Ann, and Kathy Ann.

Martha put herself through college working as a telephone operator, and later a supervising trainer for Southwestern Bell. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kansas State Teacher's College (now Pittsburg State University).

An early pioneer in the health food industry, in 1972 she opened Martha's Health Food and Herbs, a retail store selling vitamins, supplements, and healthy food in McAlester, OK, long before most of the country heard the term "organic." After retirement, she moved to Broken Arrow where she took great joy in working parttime for nearly 30 years at her daughter Kathy's store, which is also named Martha's Health Food & Herbs in honor of Martha.

She was a longtime member of Unity Church in Tulsa, and more recently attended Broken Arrow First Christian's congregation.

A life-long lover of books, she was instrumental in opening a bookstore in Broken Arrow in 2006, McHuston Books and Bistro, run by son Larry and grandson Dustin.

Martha was preceded in death by husband Ray in 1976, sister Mary, and brother John. She is survived by son Larry Hoefling of Broken Arrow, daughter Linda Collins (Dennis) of Fayetteville, AR, and daughter Kathy Williams of Broken Arrow, as well as 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at First Christian Church located at 2602 S. Elm Pl., Broken Arrow, OK, on Saturday October 8 at 11:00 AM.
