Obituary

Martin "Marty" Richard Mullican, of Owasso, Oklahoma, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 15, 2024 after a long battle with lung cancer. Marty was born in Omaha, Nebraska on December 9, 1955. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Marian (Martin) Mullican.

Marty is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Lynn (Beckman) Mullican; his children Sarah (Jared) Weir and Kelly Mullican; his 5 grandchildren: Grady, Rory Martin, Julia, Barrett and Wiley Weir; and his brother Morgan (Dawn) Mullican.

Marty proudly attended Northwest High School in Omaha, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. After beginning his career as a private pilot and certified flight instructor with Husker Aviation in Millard, NE, Marty went on to serve the US Government and Department of Defense for over 27 years. He worked for the National Security Agency (NSA) during the Cold War; he traveled the world, exploring and working in countless countries and living overseas in England with his family for five years. Other career highlights included serving as the J-6 Chief of Operations for USTRANSCOM at Scott AFB and as the Director for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) DECC in St. Louis. After retiring from civil service, Marty enjoyed a successful career as a consultant for federal, DoD, and intelligence community contractors before venturing into entrepreneurial waters by opening and operating Owasso Express Laundry in Oklahoma. Although his career caused him to move numerous times, Marty was always quick to engage with a local church wherever he lived—at times serving in church leadership.

Marty loved adventure. He was a life guard, Eagle Scout, scuba diver, sky diver, mountain skier, pilot and flight instructor, licensed CDL truck driver, ham radio operator, motorcycle rider, competitive sailboat regatta racer, award-winning pistol competitor, and professional grandchild wrestler. But more than any of his adventures or accomplishments, Marty loved spending time with his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Lynn. Together for 50 years, they truly were the best of friends.

A never smoker, Marty battled lung cancer for over 13 years before the Lord finally called him home. Throughout the numerous health trials he faced, Marty never once complained. Instead, he professed his absolute confidence in the sovereignty of God and proved it through the way he lived. He counted his cancer as a blessing, giving him opportunities to share with others his eternal hope. Because of his faith in Christ alone who forgave his sins on the cross, we are confident that Marty is now healed and exactly where he most longed to be: in heaven.

A celebration of Marty's life will occur at The Bible Church of Owasso in Owasso, Oklahoma, on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 11am, with a lunch reception to follow.
