Hockenson-Marvin Frazier was born in Carrizo Springs, Texas on December 8, 1944. Marvin passed in Tulsa October 19, 2024 at 79 years of age.
Proceeded in death by her dedicated husband of 57 years, Jon W. Hockenson, father Ernest Dabney, mother Marvin Dabney, brother William Dabney.
Marvin is a member of Saint John Episcopal Church.
Marvin attended Edison High School and graduated from The University of Tulsa with her bachelor's degree in American history.
Marvin was an avid politician. Marvin was elected City Council Representative in Lawton, Oklahoma where she served 2 terms. Marvin continued her political career working for Oklahoma State Congressman Dave McCurdy. Marvin was always an active member of the Democratic Party working in campaigns and elections.
Jon and Marvin were married in Tulsa, they lived in San Diego for the U.S Navy. Additionally, they lived in Brownfield Texas, and Lawton Oklahoma. The family moved back to Tulsa, where Jon started Hockenson Tire and Automotive Goodyear Store. Marvin completed her career with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. Marvin was an administrator with the Department of Developmental Disabilities. Marvin was a powerful advocate for those with disabilities.
Marvin was devoted to her family. Marvin was a homemaker always making her family first. The Hockenson house was a place where friends and family gathered. Marvin loved entertaining, hosting family dinners, holidays, and parties. Marvin was an incredible entertainer and was always the life of the party. Her home will be remembered as the place where memories were made and fun was had by all.
Marvin's caring, giving and loving ways will forever be etched in the hearts of her family and friends. Marvin will be dearly missed by all, she touched so many lives and was loved by all.
Marvin is survived by her children: daughter Meridith Coyne married to Jeff Coyne, son Andrew Hockenson with Janie Stoud Proctor; two grandchildren Parker and Jon Carter Coyne, and brother James Dabney, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marvin loved her Grandchildren and was very proud of their personal achievements at the University of Oklahoma. As a former Sweet Heart of Sigma Chi Fraternity, Marvin and Jon were thrilled when their grandsons became Legacy members of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Service will be held at Saint John's Episcopal Church in Tulsa Friday January 3, 2025 at 11:00 am.
