Mary Rayma Meeks (Mema to most) passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma on March 30, 2022 at the age of 91 from congestive heart failure.
Mary/Mema was born to Earnest Clifford Kincannon and Jarmilla Amelia Sliva Kincannon on April 4, 1930, at their home in Stephens County, Oklahoma. Mary was raised on the farm during the "dust bowl" years.
Mary was senior class President and graduated from Hastings High School in May 1948. Mary then proceeded to marry James Henderson (J. H.) Meeks on the 4th of July 1948 and moved to Duncan, Oklahoma where she and J. H. both worked for Halliburton. They enjoyed 4 years as newlyweds when Mary quit work at Halliburton to become a housewife and mom. During this time Mary started taking adult education classes in drafting and went back to work at Halliburton in 1960, this time as a mechanical draftsman. This was the beginning of her journey as a professional working woman, during a time when she had to fight an uphill battle for her skills, intelligence and abilities to be recognized.
J. H. took early retirement from Halliburton in 1968 and he and Mary moved to Edmond, Oklahoma where J. H. began the work of completing his college education. Mary took a job at Fife Corporation in Oklahoma City and continued to work on her formal education at Central State University and Oklahoma State University Tech in Oklahoma City, from which she graduated in 1974 with an Associate of Science Degree in General Engineering Technology.
Mary and J. H. spent most of their weekends boating at Lake Keystone here in the Tulsa area and eventually Mary landed a job at Unit Rig & Equipment as a Mechanical Designer and she and J. H. moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1975. Mary continued to work on her education and earned numerous Certificates in various areas of engineering over the ensuing years. Mary ended her career at Unit Rig as a Senior Designer primarily working in fluid power hydraulic systems wherein she designed and tested upgraded brake systems for the exceptionally large trucks used in various mining operations all around the USA. Mary took many field trips to the mines to conduct the brake tests required for certification of the systems that she designed. Mary "officially" retired from Unit Rig in 1998 but continued to work for Unit Rig for a few months each year for several years after her retirement.
Mary and J. H. loved the lake and enjoyed many years of houseboating on Lake Keystone and purchased an old houseboat in 1974 and enjoyed houseboating until in 1981 a fire burned their houseboat to the water line (along with all the other boats in the dock). They purchased another used and damaged houseboat in 1982 and proceeded to completely remodel and upgrade the 50' Seagoing brand fiberglass houseboat (the "Hallelujah") and relaunched their houseboating lifestyle. Enduring many bad windstorms, tornados and ultimately a micro-burst that damaged the houseboat, which again was hauled out to their home in Sand Springs for a second restoration.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband J. H. Meeks and their daughter Kelly Gayle Meeks Rose. Mary is survived by her son Kevin J. Meeks and his wife Dee along with their children and grandchildren and her deceased daughter's children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many other nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Mary's cremains will be buried alongside her husband in the Hasting's Cemetery in southern Oklahoma.
