Mary Loretta (Crawford) Moran Butler, homemaker, died Friday, May 30, 2014, at Franciscan Villa, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was 92 years old. Mary was born March 5, 1922 in Columbus, Ohio to Harry and Loretta (Jennings) Crawford, the sixth of their nine children. Raised in Columbus, Mary attended Holy Name School and graduated from North High School in 1939. While attending The Ohio State University, she met Joseph P. Moran and they fell in love. During WWII, Mary worked for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company and when Joe returned from England in 1945, they were married. Joes work as a petroleum engineer with Dowell took the young couple to small towns in Illinois and south Texas, where they started their family. They moved to Tulsa in 1957. Mary and Joe raised two children with love and laughter for 34 years until Joes death in 1979. In 1982, she married Walter Butler with whom she enjoyed travel and companionship until his death in 1989. A life-long Catholic, Mary was a member of the Church of St. Mary and an active Bishop Kelley High School parent. She practiced her faith as a church and school volunteer, scout leader and sports Mom. Mary shared common interests and years of fun with her wide circle of friends. She loved to play golf and remained an active member of the LaFortune Park Ladies Golf Association. She played all kinds of card games and was an exceptional bridge player. With her friends, she enjoyed trips to Grand Lake and cruises to foreign ports, always with card games on the itinerary. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and always put the needs of her family ahead of her own. Although she lived far away from her eight siblings, she remained close to them, traveling to weddings and other family gatherings or just to visit. She rarely missed a Crawford Madness family reunion in Ohio, knowing it was the best way to keep the others from talking about her. Mary is survived by her brother Frank Crawford of Chevy Chase, MD; son Christopher Moran of Jackson, WY; daughter Martha Moran Schultz and husband Ted of Tulsa, OK; granddaughter Bridgett Moran Frederick and husband Russell of Tulsa, OK; grandson Michael J. Moran and wife Melissa of Broken Arrow, OK; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Joseph P. Moran and second husband Walter M. Butler; brothers George, John, Harry and Stan Crawford; and sisters Elizabeth Crawford, Clara Crawford, and Ann Dountz. Marys family is most grateful to staff and friends at Franciscan Villa, her home the past 3 years, for taking care of our beloved mother and grandmother. Friends may honor Marys love of golf with donations to The First Tee of Tulsa www.the firstteetulsa.org which inspires youth to succeed through golf programs, or to a favorite charity. A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 19, 2014, 10am, in the chapel at the Church of St. Mary, 1347 E 49th Place, Tulsa, OK.
