Mary Lynn Block Topp Ruehlen passed away peacefully on February 13, 2019, at the age of 77, following a 2-year cancer battle. She was born on February 10, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio to Hermann and Florence Block and graduated from James Ford Rhodes High School. She lived in various parts of Florida, Louisiana, and Texas, but she spent the majority of her adult life in Lake Charles, Louisiana and League City, Texas until moving to Tulsa in 1997. She began her career in the insurance field in 1975, and she ended her career as a licensed insurance agent, customer service representative and office manager with State Farm Insurance.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Mary Lynn was an avid reader, a wonderful cook who loved to feed people, a talented crocheter, an animal lover (particularly greyhounds), a devoted prayer warrior and faithful Christian. She was a member of St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, where she was a member of The Order of the Daughters of the King, a Stephen minister, a coffee hour host and vestry member. She was a member of Insurance Women of Tulsa and National Association of Insurance Women of Tulsa, as well as a dedicated volunteer at Clarehouse and Halfway Home Greyhound Adoption.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 41 years, Michael D. Ruehlen; two daughters, Julie Topp Henig and her husband, Tom of Orlando, FL, and Karen Topp Smiley and her husband, Ken of Houston, TX; two grandsons, Avery Smiley and Vaughn Smiley; a brother, Dale Block and his wife, Nancy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Florence Block.
A memorial service will take place on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 2:00 pm at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, 5635 E. 71st Street, Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Clarehouse, 7617 S. Mingo Road, Tulsa, OK 74133; Grace Hospice of OK, 6218 S. Lewis Avenue, Suite 1000, Tulsa, OK 74136; St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, 5635 E. 71st Street, Tulsa, OK 74136; Halfway Home Greyhound Adoption, 7416 W. 73rd Street, Tulsa, OK 74131.
