Mary Earline Webster Diaz, January 20, 1930 June 7, 2013 Mary Webster Diaz passed at 1:20am to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 7, 2013. Mary was born in Ft. Pierce, Florida, the daughter of a successful shrimping fleet owner and captain. The family's origins date back to the early 1600's in South Carolina, and Jekyll Island, Georgia. The family moved and shrimped along the Atlantic coast off of Florida where Mary was born, as well as the Gulf Coasts of Georgia from Thunderbolt and Savannah, to Morgan City, Louisiana, to Port Isabel, Texas. Mary helped countless people over the course of her long fruitful life, as a mother, mother figure, grandmother, aunt, friend, and as RN for 50 years. Her unwavering and unselfish love, devotion, faith, and quiet example inspired and taught us all much and her legacy will continue to instruct us. Mary graduated from Morgan City High School with her identical twin sister Margaret, who survives her. Her accomplishments in high school included lettering in basketball and receiving the honor of Prom Queen. She continued her education in New Orleans receiving an RN Degree from The Southern Baptist Academy School of Nursing and Tulane Medical School. She continued on in her nursing career in Brownsville, where she met her husband Joe Diaz, who preceded her in death April 8, 1978. When Joe passed he was the International Sales Manager for Shell Chemical. He was also one of the first Mexican and Native Americans to attend and graduate from The University of California at Berkeley, as well as, Officers Training in the United States Marine Corps, WWII. Joe was also a life long member of the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus. After Joe's death, Mary became extremely active in the church that she and Joe were founding members of, St. Edwards Catholic Church, in Spring, Texas. More recently Mary was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Austin, Texas. Mary and Joe had four children, their eldest, Lisa, preceded them both in death at age 3. Their other three children survive her. Linda Jean Diaz lives in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Mitchell Dean Diaz and Howard Webster Diaz, live in Austin, Texas. In addition to her three children and identical twin sister, Margaret Webster Lyckman of Austin, Texas, Mary is also survived by sisters, Barbara 'Bobbie' Webster of Austin, Texas and Deborah 'Debbie' Carter of Tucson, Arizona. Preceding Mary in death with Joe and Lisa are her parents, Margaret Thompson Webster and Earl Buist Webster, her mother and father-in-law, Evaristo and Julia Diaz, and Sister Julia 'Jeanie' Brown. Mary had an especially strong connection with her grandchildren, whom they called "Mame." Her grandchildren cherished every minute spent with her and miss her deeply. Through The faith in God Mary guided them to, her grandchildren know that Mary will always be with them. Those grandchildren are: Christian Michelle Copeland, Lauren Rae Prikryl, Jocelyn Gabriella Diaz and Noah Devin Diaz of Austin, Texas. The family thanks all the extended family members who have been of great comfort to Mary and the family over the years; they number too many too list. However, Linda and Mitchell would like to specifically thank and gratefully acknowledge Al and Margaret Lyckman, David and Mary-Gail Lyckman, Donald Copeland, Latius Prikryl, Gary Gorman, Pat Alvis, Loretta Drennan, Emily Hurley, Don and Debbie Lewis, Peggy Wear, and Avril Zimmerman for their friendship, love, joy and support they shared with Mary over the years. Linda and Mitchell thank especially their Aunt Barbara Webster and her daughters, Margaret E. and Barbara Fernandez, and also Mary's granddaughters Christian Copeland and Lauren Prikryl for their loving support at the time of Mary's passing. The family would also like to thank and praise the extra-ordinary ICU, Surgery, and Chaplaincy Staff at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. The hospital's name sake's St. Francis and his prayer befits the experience the family and Mary had there with the entire St.Francis staff--bringing light, comfort, and hope to the weary. We take great peace and solace knowing that Mary is in Heaven celebrating with God with her family and friends that preceded her. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you please donate to the charity of your choice in Mary's name. A celebration of Mary's life and her love for the ocean and beach will take place in Port Aransas on Easter, 2014.
