Obituary

Matt was born in Norton, Virginia on September 8, 1955 to James Isaac Greer and Rheba Shortt Greer. They were a Navy family, and lived in nearly every corner of the United States before landing in Orange, California, where Matt graduated from Orange High School in 1973, and lettered in football. Shortly after his graduation, the family retired from the military and settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Matt attended RSU, majoring in Chemistry. Matt met Cher'i DuSo (Frenchie) outside of a Baskin Robbins in Tulsa. She shared her blueberry cheesecake ice cream cone with him and he stole her heart. They went on to share forty two years together, and were married for thirty five of them. And, also shared one amazing son. Their son, Garin, was his pride and joy. Matt was a great father, and loved coaching and managing his son's baseball team. He encouraged him in everything that he did, and he had genuine enthusiasm for getting into whatever Garin was into. From computers and bikes to card games and mopeds, Matt was more than just a father, he was his best friend and Garin was his 'little buddy.' Matt loved the lake and everything it had to offer. Whether he was skiing, fishing, pulling kids on tubes, or just sitting on the dock and watching the crazies on the lake, he took it all in! Family and friends and friends of friends were always welcome. Everyone who knew Matt knew he had a big heart. He was always willing to help friends, family, neighbors, and even strangers. Our family is small, but it grew because of his love and generosity. He willingly shared our home, food and love with several of his son's friends when they didn't have anywhere else to go, and many of them still consider themselves a part of the family. During his retirement, after 31 years at the Tulsa Ford Glass Plant, he found his second home at the Broken Arrow Elks Lodge. He was a people person who loved to make others smile, and was always ready with a joke. He cherished his Elk Family, and was proud to be one of them. Matt was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Reba Greer, and his sister, Trina Moody-Simpson. He is survived by his wife, Cher'i D. Greer, his son, Garin Michael Greer, a wealth of friends, and his dog Casio, who he affectionately referred to as his 'girlfriend.' At 62, he left us way too soon. We will never be able to fill the hole he has left in our hearts. To say he will be greatly missed doesn't even come close to the sense of loss we will forever feel. He brought joy to many people and that's how he will always be remembered. Here's to it and from it and to it again. Let's get to it and do it, for we may never get together to do it again.
