Obituary

Maude Tavy Allen Thrasher "Aunt Dood", died peacefully on August 28, 2014 as a result of complications of chronic medical issues at age 94 in Eufaula, Oklahoma. She was born at home in Brush Hill, Oklahoma on November 15, 1919 to William Lundy Allen and Maud Shepherd Allen. Maude was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Lundy Otie Allen, and her husband, Eugene "Son" Thrasher. In her early years, the family moved to Wisdom, Montana to work on the Huntley Ranch in the Big Hole Basin. She had many stories of their life there including horseback riding, cooking for the ranch hands, shearing sheep, herding cattle, and sleigh rides to school in the snowy winters. She was a proud graduate of Checotah High School and attended the reunions as late as June, 2014. It was her 77 th class reunion. She enjoyed many activities including sewing, crafting, cooking, but most of all, storytelling. Maude engaged in an interesting variety of occupations during her life. She worked with her mother cooking for ranch hands in Montana, worked in an osteopaths office, was a homemaker, worked in Muskogee for Susmans Department Store and made trips to New York as a buyer. She and Gene started their own business, The Country Store, in Brush Hill near Lake Eufaula making many friends while they were in operation. After retiring from that enterprise, they moved into Checotah and eventually settled in Lakeland Cove Terrace in Eufaula. She was a Charter Member of the F.L.E.A.S. and held the office of president. Maude still attended their events and luncheons until her health did not permit. Maude is survived by her step-son, Ron and his wife, Cheryl of Tulsa, her niece, Carol Allen Duke and her husband, Tim of Garland, her nephew, Lundy Stephen Allen of Kingsland, Texas, as well as great niece Ashley Lasky, husband, Allen, and great, great nephew Tristan, of Addison, Texas, and great niece, Amanda of Garland, Texas. There are numerous Allen, Martin, and Shepherd cousins and in-laws from East Coast to West Coast, including Alaska, as well as many friends that will miss her. Memorial services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Checotah on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery beside Eugene. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to their favorite charity. We wish to express our thanks to the staff of Rivercross Hospice and the staff of Eufaula Manor who enabled Maude to depart to her final home with peace and dignity.
