Melton Dale Hair, 63, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away on August 18, 2016 in Tulsa. Mel was born June 11th, 1953 in Tulsa to Paula Louise and Dale Hair. After returning from his time in the Army, he married the love of his life, Barbara Lee Hair on August 16, 1974 and shortly thereafter found his second love, hang gliding. He led a life of hard work and was a great friend, father, husband, and adviser to his family. He had an interesting sense of humor that he often shared. He passionately promoted the sport of hang gliding, training, and mentoring many upcoming pilots over the years. He was an advocate for safety in the sport. Mel was a kind hearted person with a very soft spot for animals and never met a dog he wouldnt rescue. He had a particular knack for problem solving and would help anyone at any time. He was a man of action and never hesitated to do what needed to be done. When the existing hang glider launch at Buffalo Mountain in Talihina Oklahoma was closed in the late 1990s he decided to purchase land on top of the mountain and began building a new hang gliding/paragliding launch. The help of many pilots and Mels tireless contributions allowed the creation of a premier flying site. It was his dream to have the site exist in perpetuity. He was also working towards expanding his hang gliding business, Sportwings of Oklahoma, to the landing field at Buffalo Mountain. With his trusty four-legged companion Noodle, Mel poured his heart into making that dream a reality. He is survived by his wife Barbara, beloved dog Noodle, his son Jesse, his daughter Katherine, and his sister Paula Gayle Sticksel and husband, Don. He is predeceased by his mother, Paula Louise Day. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to: Wild Heart Ranch at PO Box 170, Foyil, Oklahoma 74031
