Michael Peter Kier was born on August 10, 1951, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Lawrence C. and Jerry (Palmer) Kier.
Mike grew up in high school, and then came to Tulsa to graduate from the University of Tulsa in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in
urban studies.
His entire career was with the City of Tulsa, beginning with college internships and ending with his death on December 9, 2018. He
became a full-time city employee in the budget department in 1975 and was promoted to Finance Director in 1993.
In addition to his remarkable ability to remember facts and numbers and to rapidly perform complex calculations in his head, Mike was widely respected for his wisdom, objectivity, ethics and non-partisan service.
In 1979 he married Theresa Dillion. Together they enjoyed sailing, mostly on Grand Lake of the Cherokees, scuba diving in the
Caribbean, and visiting with family and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, great-nephew Kendall Kier, sister-in-law Kathi Kier, and mother-in-law Dorotha Dillion. His Father-in-law Vernon Dillion passed away one month later. Mike is survived by his wife Theresa; brother Larry of St. Louis, MO; sister Holly Lana and her husband Mark, his step-mother Joan and step brother Chuck, all of Denver, CO; by his step sister Jody Hurtado
of San Jose, CA; and a host of nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
