Michelle Shavaughn Stokes, 35, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, died Monday, February 7, 2022 with friends by her side.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 3:30 pm at ahha Museum in Tulsa, OK with a reception to follow.
Michelle was born June 23, 1986 in Los Angeles, California to Eristine Harper. Her mother and her aunt, Joanne Harris, raised her in Los Angeles and they moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1998. She attended college at Arizona State University, Rema Bible College, and Tulsa Community College, after which she worked as a graphic designer, first at Chinowth & Cohen and then at the Tulsa Regional Chamber.
Michelle was a talented and passionate graphic designer whose projects included an award-winning design for the Tulsa Creativity Database. She was a skilled swing dancer who spent time traveling, teaching, emceeing, and generally making friends in the lindy hop community. She also treasured her cozy time in comfy clothes at home.
Michelle is survived by her mother, Eristine Harper; aunt and uncle, Carolyn and Ron Freeman; cousins, Vickie Alexander, Marcus Harris, and Alisa Harris; best friend and roommate, Laurel Ryan; and boyfriend, James Jordan.
She was preceded in death by her aunt, Joanne Harris and grandparents, Roy and Sarah Harper.
