Obituary

Nancy Leona (Owens) Abercrombie, of Salina, passed away at 6:15 am on April 5, 2019 at the Green Country Care Center in Tulsa, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Nancy was 74 years old and was born in Fresno, California, on November 21, 1944. Nancy graduated from Ketchum High School in 1964, and graduated from NSU with her bachelor's degree in 1994 and began her career as a social worker at the Tahlequah Department of Human Services where she worked until her retirement in 2012. Nancy will be greatly missed. Nancy was a caring woman who enjoyed the large family gatherings she hosted in her home. She was known for her sparkling eyes, bright smile, and famous fried chicken. Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Alva (McMahan) Owens; her father, RC Owens, both of Spavinaw; her sister, Lois (Owens) Hendry of Kansas; her grandson, Lincoln Alexander Williams of Tulsa; and her son, Floyd David Abercrombie of Florida. She is survived by her husband, Floyd Gene Abercrombie of Pryor; her sisters, Anita King, and her husband Doug, of Locust Grove and Juanita Cagle, and her husband Billy, of Spavinaw; her brothers Tom Jourdan, and his wife Kathy, of New Mexico and Randy Owens, and his wife Beth, of Spavinaw; her daughters, Lisa Williams, and her husband Carey, of Tulsa, Barbara Abercrombie, and her wife Tery DeShong, of Dallas, Texas, and Amy Coats of Pryor. Nancy is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Ashton Williams of Tulsa; Tyler Williams of Tulsa; Carl Coats of Tahlequah; Joshua Coats of Fairbanks, Alaska; Jacob Abercrombie of Tulsa, Steven Abercrombie of Tulsa, and Katie Abercrombie Sturm of Tulsa; numerous nieces and nephews and 5 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the Abercrombie Family Scholarship, set up at Northeastern State University for first generation college students. Donations can be made to "The NSU Foundation" with "Abercrombie Family Scholarship donation" indicated in the memo, and mailed to 600 N. Grand Ave., Tahlequah, OK 74464. A small, graveside memorial service will be held at the Spavinaw-Strang Cemetery on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.
