Nancy J. (Myers) Bird, 75, formerly of Greenville, PA, passed away at her home in Rose, OK on Monday, November 19, 2018. She was born to the late Joseph and Twyla (Peters) Myers, also of Greenville, and graduated from Greenville High School in 1961. In September 1963, Nancy married John P. Bird of Cuyahoga Falls, OH. They lived in Greenville with their four daughters, where Nancy was the organist and a life-long active member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Nancy also was very active as a Girl Scout leader in Greenville, and an avid and talented seamstress at home.
Seeking job opportunities, Nancy moved with her husband and children in 1978 first to Youngstown, NY, then to Alden, NY. During these years, Nancy expanded her talents by managing two different retail fabric stores, and also working as an Avon representative and then a District Manager for Avon. The family moved again in 1981 to Oklahoma, where Nancy and her husband settled in Tulsa to raise their daughters and later begin their roles as grandparents. For several years, Nancy and John traveled together around the southeastern US to regional craft shows, displaying and selling their handicrafts - Nancy selling doll clothes she had hand-sewn, and John selling wood-crafted items he had created. Throughout her life, Nancy was active in her church community, serving alternately as organist and choir director wherever she went, depending on the need. She maintained a deep love and appreciation of music, and especially enjoyed the beautiful music of the Christmas holiday season.
Eventually Nancy and John decided to escape the city life and to find quiet in the beauty of nature on 10 acres in the woods. Nancy and her husband found what they were looking for in 2005 when they built their home and settled into the gentle and quiet retired life of Rose, OK, in Mayes County. During her quiet days in recent years, Nancy became an incredible jigsaw puzzle aficionado. She always had at least one puzzle underway on her dining room table, and often times, family or friends who visited were instructed to simply lay a table cloth on top of the puzzle in order to eat a meal together. Puzzling kept Nancy entertained, challenged, and rewarded for her persistent effort, and also provided an easy, low-key way for her to bond with her many family members around the table, focused in together on a joint effort. In lieu of flowers, Nancy's daughters invite you to consider donating to Puzzles To Remember [www.PuzzlesToRemember.org] which is a 501(c)3 organization that provides puzzles to nursing homes, veterans facilities, and other facilities that care for Alzheimer's and dementia patients.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Twyla (Peters) Myers, brothers Ron Myers and Tom Myers, and her husband of 50 years, John Bird. Nancy leaves behind four daughters and their spouses, ten grandchildren and their spouses, four great-grandchildren, and cousin Pat Snyder Foster of Greenville, PA.
