Obituary

Nicholas Landin, known to everyone as "Nick", died April 12th, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma after a short hospital stay. He was 87.

Nick was born June 15th, 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska the eldest son of Mary Pavel Landin. He spent his childhood in Omaha with his brother Don and their four half-sisters Rosie, Audy, Alice, and Carol. His adoptive father, Henry Landin, moved the family to Washington State for a few years for farming opportunity. They later returned to Omaha, and Nick graduated from North High School.

He met his future wife Faye Brady in 1961, at Augustana Lutheran Church where they both sang in choir. He was a tenor, she a soprano. They married September 1, 1962. They made their home in Omaha, and had four children … Mark Christopher in 1964, Jennifer Anne in 1967, Lesli Michelle in 1968, and Jonathan Nicholas in 1972. They attended Calvary Lutheran Church where Nick and Faye were active and their children were baptized.

Nick studied chemistry at the University of Nebraska at Omaha before Mark was born, but a severe motorcycle accident in 1963 derailed those plans. He began working a night job at Union Pacific Railroad as he recovered and eventually became a full-time employee in their new data processing center, learning and using a new machine called an IBM.

He joined the Nebraska Air National Guard in 1962, where he worked on maintaining jet aircraft. He was honorably discharged in 1982.

Nick and Faye relocated the whole family to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1979, where he worked at Cities Service Petroleum, later Occidental Petroleum, continuing his career as a computer systems engineer. They attended various Lutheran churches there, settling at Fellowship Lutheran Church in the 1980s.

Nick enjoyed music, singing in the choir, playing the trumpet, and later active in the bell choir. He enjoyed working with his hands, building furniture and cultivating a beautiful lawn. He spent a lot of time and energy in his garage, fixing and repairing items in the home and customizing his classic American cars. Nick was a member of the Oklahoma Chevelle club, and his El Camino made it into the national calendar for the month of July. He was a lifelong fan of Nebraska Cornhusker football, which he passed on to his children to varying degrees, and was a charter member of the Oklahoma Cornhusker Club where he served as Treasurer.

Nick is survived by his adult children Mark, Jennifer and Lesli, all of Tulsa, along with 4 grandchildren – Desiree Scocos of Coweta, Oklahoma, and her husband Reed, and 2 great-grandsons Greyson and Arlo; Meagan Tripp and great-grandson Ace, of Tulsa; Rachel Palmer and her husband Matthew, of Tulsa; and Eric Landin, of Tulsa. He is also survived by his sister Carol Ervin, and nephew Carl, of Nebraska, nieces Vanessa Jerrell and Valerie Long, both of California; and numerous cousins in Romania. He was preceded in death by his wife Faye and his son Jonathan, his brother Don and sisters Rosie, Audy and Alice.
