A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Redeemer Covenant Church in Tulsa, OK.
Norma was born in Jefferson County, AL, as the only child to Roy Orville Moebes and Mildred Frances Burris Moebes. The family moved to San Francisco, CA, in 1945, where Norma graduated high school and studied to become an elementary school teacher. While at San Francisco City College, she met her lifelong friend and love of her life, Pete Chevrier. They wed on July 3, 1952, and were married for almost 70 years. Norma taught third grade in South San Francisco, and in 1959, she gave birth to her long-awaited son, Randal Roy. She was a loving and nurturing mother as well as a dear friend and sister-in-Christ to her adult son.
Pete's job brought the three of them to Tulsa in 1969, where she enjoyed the remainder of her earthly life. Beginning in 1974, through a series of events only God could orchestrate, Norma and her family were led to a saving faith in Jesus. Norma and Pete served as youth group sponsors at New Haven Methodist Church, and in 1976, Pete and Norma started the family business, Paintmaster Collision Center. Norma worked there in the office and took every opportunity to share her new-found faith with employees and customers. She enjoyed serving with Literacy and Evangelism and singing in the New Bells Women's Choir. In 1988, Pete and Norma helped to found Redeemer Covenant Church, where she was an avid member of the Prayer Team, the church choir, and countless Bible studies, Sunday school classes, and small groups over the years and through the end of her life.
Besides her involvement in church, Norma's passions included spending time with her family, caring for her granddaughters as their beloved "Nana," tending to her garden and house plants, having daily devotional and prayer times, knitting, bird-watching, spending time in nature on the family's land in Dustin, OK, reading novels from the library, exercising at the YMCA, and most of all, sharing the love of Jesus everywhere she went. Norma's life was a true blessing to all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed by her loved ones. Her legacy of faithfulness to Christ, ceaseless and expectant prayer, bold witnessing, and fierce love for her family and friends will be an inspiration to her family for generations to come.
Norma is survived by her husband, Pete Chevrier, her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Kelley Chevrier, her five granddaughters and their spouses; Brooke and George Young, Britney and Jason Burch, Erin McWilliams, Katie and Adam Osmon, Amy and Nick Spriggs; six great grandchildren with the seventh on the way, and her lifelong friend who she considered a sister, Dorothy (Dot) Smirle. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mildred Moebes.
The family of Norma Chevrier wishes to extend our sincere thanks to cardiology nurse practitioner, Lisa Armstrong, nephrologist, Dr. Alpana Pasricha, and all the wonderful nurses and staff members of the 4th Floor Specialty Unit at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK, for the compassionate care they provided for our dear Norma Jean at the end of her life.
The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Blessings of Joy in honor of Norma Chevrier. (https://www.blessingsofjoy.com)
