IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pamela Kate
Powell
October 2, 1945 – November 16, 2023
Pamela Kate Powell, longtime Tulsa resident (formerly of Houston, Texas) passed away Thursday, November 16th at the age of 78.
A lifelong lover of the arts, Pammy was a talented singer, actor, dancer, and gifted artist, as well as a passionate teacher. She graduated from the University of Texas with degrees in English and Education in 1968. After graduation, she moved overseas with her then husband, Rick Wells, and lived in Germany and South Korea for several years. There, she worked for the Army as an educator, as well as in diplomatic roles, before returning to the States to live in Washington, DC. She first became a mother in 1978, fully embracing this new role, and yet always finding time to continue a wide-ranging career. For instance, producing and hosting her own TV show, West Texas World, in Odessa, Texas; volunteering as a docent for the Smithsonian Institution in DC, for the historic town of Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, and for the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, OK, just to name a few.
She was an avid collector of gems and minerals – she absolutely loved Turquoise and Tiger's Eye. She loved to cook, always creating tasty new dishes. She was constantly learning about history and other cultures. She truly loved life.
Of all her accomplishments and adventures, she was most proud of teaching young students to love art, music, and dance. She especially loved instilling her passion for the arts in her own children, as well as countless others over many decades, teaching students of all ages. Her smile, twinkly eyes, laughter, and warmth of spirit were infectious. Pammy was loved by all who had the good fortune to know her. She will be deeply missed beyond what words can express.
She lost her father at age 20 in 1966 and her mother in 2000. She faithfully kept their memories alive through story; an honor she will undoubtedly receive in return. She is survived by her younger brother, Richard H Powell Jr. of Katy, TX, as well as her three devoted children – Richard Wells (age 45) of Honolulu, HI, Susannah Wells (age 43) of Key West, FL, and Brett Wells (age 41) of Broken Arrow, OK.
There will be a memorial service open to the public at Faith United Methodist Church on Sunday, December 10th at 2pm. The address is 7431 E 91st St, Tulsa, OK. It is a Celebration of Life; please feel free to wear a splash of bright color. She would have enjoyed it. If you're inspired to do so, a fitting tribute would be a donation to Clark Youth Theatre (clarkyouththeatre.com) in Pamela Powell's name.
