IN LOVING MEMORY OF

September 26, 1957 – December 28, 2022
Phillip Joseph Schermer, 65 years old, born on 26 Sep 1957 to Evelyn and Ronnie Dixon, passed on 28 Dec 2022 surrounded by family and friends.
Phil was a veteran of 31 years, USAF retired, in the Munitions career field. Phil served in the regular Air Force 1975-1979 at Dyess AB, TX; Wheeler AFB, HI; and Hill AB, UT. While living in northern CA, Phil was a member of the SRT, Special Response Team at the Sierra Army Depot, Herlong, CA; he was known as Capt. Midnight because of his stealthy moves. During this time in CA, Phil joined the Nevada Air National Guard, Reno unit to continue his military career in munitions. In 1990, Phil joined the 138th FW, Tulsa, OK and retired from here in November 2009. While a member of the 138th FW, Phil was considered "dual status" as a guard member and civil service employee. Phil attained the rank of 1st Sgt in April 1999, a most prideful moment of his career.
Phil deployed to many locations, Alaska, Hawaii, and to the desert many times since Desert Shield/Storm. He performed duties at Incirlik AB, Turkey for Operation Provide Comfort and Operation Northern Watch; Al Jabber AB, Kuwait for Operation Southern Watch; Al Udied AB, Qatar for Operation Enduring Freedom; then Balad AB, Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Phil was a proud member of the Oklahoma DAV for 10 years and held the positions of Sgt at Arms and Inspector, both at the state level. He was instrumental in fundraising for Chapter 44 in Rogers County and helping to start a new chapter, Chapter 94 in Collinsville. He was also a member of VFW Post 3077 and American Legion Post 2, both of Collinsville.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents Evelyn Renfro McCall, Ronnie Dixon, and adopted father Ludwig Schermer. He is survived by his wife Ann Schermer; sister Debbie Schermer; sons Nick (Jacquelynn) Schermer and Forest Skelton; niece and nephew Christina Laverty and Mitchell Lambert; great niece and nephew Shelby Weber Schermer and Michael Weber Schermer; and granddaughter Marley Mae Schermer.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Saturday 28 January 2023 at VFW Post 3077, 15640 N 137th E Ave, Collinsville, OK. Military funeral honors will be rendered by the Honor Guard of VFW Post 3077 and Legion Post 2.
Donations may be made in Phil's honor to DAV Chapter 94, PO Box 923, Collinsville, OK 74021.
