Obituary

R.D. (Bob) Phillips, Sr., 94, Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away on Monday, October 13, 2014, at his home. "Senior" as he was affectionately known was born on November 17, 1919 in Petty, Texas to William Zachary Phillips and Sarah Edna Roberts Phillips. He had two sisters, Jewel Allene Schickram and Edyth Elnora White and six brothers, Yale Boss, Roy Lawley, Ralph William, Billy Joe, Tommy Gene and James Kenneth. Senior went to school in Tulsa and graduated from Central High School in 1937 and planned his high school reunion four years ago. He attended the University of Tulsa and later, the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. December 9, 1939 he married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Scott and enjoyed 66 years of marriage until her passing in 2005. They had one son, Robert D. Phillips, Jr. in 1948. In later years they proudly continued raising their two nieces, Regina Cripps and Mary Kay Burnham. In November 1942 he joined the Army Air Corp and served with distinction as a B25 pilot and trainer during WWII until April 1946. After his discharge from the Army Air Corp he continued his career in the petroleum marketing business as the General Manager of Gaino Oil Company, which was later sold to Petroleum Marketing Company where he served as Vice President of Marketing until June 1967. He then joined Bell Oil and Gas Company as Vice President of Sales. He then moved to Wichita, KS and served as President of Vickers Petroleum. After retirement, he continued to work with his son, Bob Phillips, Jr., as an advisor and Director at Fuel Managers Inc., until the age of 90. Senior was a member of many associations and served as an officer with many. He was a past president of The Oklahoma Petroleum Council, Oklahoma Oil Marketers Association, and Tulsa Oil Marketers Club. He served as Vice President of the Wichita, KS Chamber of Commerce. He was a former Lt Governor of Division 15, Texas-Oklahoma District of Kiwanis International. He had over 60 years with the Kiwanis Club of East Tulsa. He had 50-year pins for Master Mason and 32 nd Degree of the Tulsa Scottish Rite. He was member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Court #47 for nearly 50 years, and was a past Director and Impresario of said court. He truly enjoyed and had great satisfaction from his work with the Kiwanis, his work in the mentoring program for Tulsa Public Schools and club sponsor for Webster High School Key Club. In his notes he acknowledged Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He had many instances where he narrowly escaped death and he firmly believed that his life being saved were the acts of The Lord. Senior was loved by many, many people from multiple generations and had a huge, positive impact on so many peoples education, careers and lives. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marjorie, his great grandson, Pierce Alexander Phillips, his parents and his siblings. He is survived by his son, Robert D. Phillips, Jr. and Carol Truman, of Reno, Nevada; and her daughters, Kaley and Sarah of Broken Arrow, OK; Regina and Lawrence Cripps of Nevada, MO and her children, Shannon and Donovan; Mary Kay Burnham of Sand Springs, OK and her daughter, Kandace; two grandsons, Todd Phillips, his wife Tiffany and their three children, Chloe, Callie and Ashton, and Scott Phillips, his wife Brandi and their son, Hudson, all of Tulsa, OK; as well as many, much loved nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service has been scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at The Kirk (Hills Campus) 4102 E. 61st Street, with Reverend Wayne Hardy officiating.
