Obituary

Richard Lee Davis, aka "RD", passed away in the comfort of his home and surrounded by family, February 16th, 2022. He was born August 4, 1946 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Lyle and Roxie Davis. Richard grew up in the Greenwood-Dawson area of Tulsa. He graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1964 and married his high school sweetheart Marilyn shortly after. One of Richard's first jobs was delivery driver for Tulsa Tobacco. His daily route took him to the Greenwood Business DIstrict, where he developed a sentimental tie to the area that remains to this day. From the late 60's until retirement in 2005, Richard was a stationary engineer for Flowserve. Richard is former lay speaker of Tulsa Indian United Methodist Church. An accomplished runner in the 80's, Richard carried the olympic torch through part of Oklahoma as it made its way to Los Angeles for the '84 summer Olympics. He loved Sooner football, Coney I-lander, his Harley Davidson, estate sales, caring for his labrador's Pooh & Lou, as well as tending his vegetable garden "Richard's Homegrown." Richard cherished spending time with family, helping neighbors, and reminiscing with his close friend Robert. Whether morning trips to Livi Lee's for donuts, grabbing a paper at the Shell Station, catching up with Michael from Coney I-lander, or Tuesday trips to the Assistance League Thrift Shop, Richard never met a stranger and everyone who came into contact with him felt an instant connection. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at St. John's Acute Care 12-West and Compassus for taking great care of Richard in his final days, as well as Cremation Society of Oklahoma for helping the family preserve his memory. Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn Davis, his children Paul Davis (Joyce) and Jennifer Harmon (Chris), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several extended family and close friends. A celebration of Richard's life will be held this spring in Tulsa. Details forthcoming.
