Richard G. Petricek, Jr. of Skiatook, OK passed away May 25, 2017 in Tulsa after a brief illness. Born April 13, 1964 in McAlester, OK, Rick grew up in the High Hill area. He played tackle for the McAlester High School Buffaloes, graduating in 1982. Rick attended college at Eastern State College in Wilburton and later at Oklahoma State University, where he graduated with a B.S. in civil engineering in 1987. He later returned to OSU to earn a master's degree in environmental engineering in 1996. He began his career in civil engineering at the City of McAlester in 1987, where he was the Assistant City Engineer. In 1991, he earned his Professional Engineer's license. Later, he began working at Dudley and Associates Engineers in McAlester. Rick moved to Skiatook in 1999 and began working for the Town of Skiatook as City Engineer and then Director of Public Works. Later, he worked for the City of Tulsa, Dewberry Design Group, Infrastructure Design Services, and Poe Associates, Inc. Rick was an engineer's engineer, always taking time to listen to problems, talk through solutions, and lend a helping hand when needed. His thoughtful advice and counsel was always appreciated by those who had the pleasure of working with him. Rick was nominated for and received the prestigious Fellow Designation from the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) in 2015. It is the highest honor bestowed by the NSPE. Rick has served on the board of the Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers, most recently as Secretary/Treasurer. He also was elected Trustee of the Tulsa Engineering Foundation (TEF) in 2009 and served as President in 2012-2013. He was a past board member of the Adamson Rural Water District. Boy scouting was very important to Rick. He achieved his Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor, and Order of the Arrow Golden Arrow Award as a youth and the District Award of Merit and Silver Beaver Award as an adult. He served many summers as a scout leader at Camp Tom Hale. Rick also served as an Assistant Scoutmaster at Troop 404 in McAlester and served for many years as Chapter Advisor for Oka Tuli O.A. Chapter. Math and science education for youth was another of Rick's passions. He was the Tulsa Regional Competition MATHCOUNTS Coordinator from 2005 2016. He was also the Oklahoma State MATHCOUNTS Grading Room Coordinator from 2012 2016 and assisted, along with family members, at several regional competitions around the state. Rick also coordinated the annual TEF Engineers Week Student Breakfast for several years, giving hundreds of students the opportunity to talk with area engineers. He served on the TEF Joint Society Golf Tournament Committee and was key in raising thousands of dollars for engineering scholarships. He touched many young people in his outreach efforts. He was a Blue Lodge Master Mason with South McAlester Lodge 96. Rick volunteered his time with Meals On Wheels and was a docent with the Nature Conservancy at the Tall Grass Prairie Preserve. Rick's hobby was amateur photography. On March 18, 2008, Rick married Heng Hong 'Callie' Lee. Rick and Callie travelled extensively, visiting her homeland of Singapore and Europe. Rick was able to visit his family's hometown in the Czech Republic. Rick enjoyed visiting many of the national parks in the United States. Rick is survived by his wife, Heng Hong (Callie), of the home; his parents, Richard and Carol Petricek (Skiatook); his mother-in-law Ee Kew Goh (Singapore), his sister, Yvette Thompson and her husband, Terry (Skiatook); his sister-in-law, Heng Chin Lee and her husband Geme Teo; his sisters-in-law, Siew Fong Kok, Heng Siew Lee and Heng Hoon Lee; his brother-in-law, Heng Boon Lee and his wife, Yuliana Tan (Singapore); nieces and nephews, Johnathan and Laura McElhany, Jared McElhany, Cassie and Jarrod Wall, Chance and Abby Thompson, Tera and Thomas Medlen, Pamela Teo, Hui Ping Teo, Zewei Teo, Wei Yang Lee, Wei Qi Lee and Alexis Lee. Rick was preceded in death by an infant brother, his Grandpa Frank and Granny Madeline Petricek, his Grandpa John Whitworth and Granny Jewell Whitworth, his father-in-law Yong Leong Lee, his brother-in-law Heng Chye Lee and nephew Cody Thompson. The family will lay Rick to rest at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester, followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at the McAlester Masonic Lodge.
