Richard Manley Widdows departed from this life on April 6, 2014 at St. Johns Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His wife of 61 years, Florine, was by his side. Richard was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on February 26, 1928 at St. Johns Hospital to Arthur M. and Blanche Widdows. He is survived by his wife, Florine; his two daughters, P. Gae Widdows and husband James Hamm and Heidi Pendelton and husband Mark Pendelton; and his son, Richard M. Widdows, II. He cared deeply for his grandchildren, Geoffrey, Gillian, Sean, and Natalie. Richard lived most of his life in the Austin and Round Rock, Texas area and returned to Tulsa in his retirement years. He graduated from Oklahoma Military Academy in 1945 where he became a licensed pilot. Richard was in the U.S. Navy and proudly served in WWII and the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Tulsa with a business degree in accounting. He worked as a Certified Public Accountant for several national accounting firms and in the oil and gas industry before becoming the Director of Finance for the Texas State Department of Health. He received the Honorary Texas Citizen award in 1987 from Governor W.P. Clements, Jr. for his contributions as Director of Finance. Richard enjoyed a variety of hobbies and talents including bee keeping, woodworking and carpentry, snow skiing, and hunting. Richard was a Webelos Den Leader, Assistant Scout Master and Scout Master for 8 years. He was the Scout Master as he proudly watched his son Richard become an Eagle Scout. He appreciated learning about other cultures and enjoyed travelling with his family. In the last forty years he traveled to many destinations including England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Malta, Sicily, Mexico, Bermuda, Caribbean Islands, Alaska, and Hawaii. He was interested in cooking, smoking turkeys and salmon, and was a chocoholic, eating four pieces of chocolate every day for lunch for the past 10 years. In his later years, he was an avid reader and loved to watch golf tournaments on television. A funeral service celebrating Richardss life will be held at Christ Church on April 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held at Saint Richards Episcopal Church on May 3, 2014 in Round Rock, Texas. The family requests donations to Christ Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma or Day Spring Villa, c/o Women and Childrens Shelter, P.O. Box 1588, Sand Springs, Oklahoma, in lieu of flowers.
