Obituary

Robert Lyle "Bob" Baker, 102, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma passed away on January 5th, 2023. Bob was born on September 27, 1920 to Clyde and Alice (Zaiser) Baker of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He grew up in Red Lake Falls with his grandparents, his Mother, and two siblings.

He graduated from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls in 1938. After high school he attended college at the University of Minnesota-Duluth before moving on to work in the construction industry building electrical power distribution lines until materials were diverted to the war effort. He then took a job with Kraft Foods in Duluth. He married the love of his life Margaret

"Nock" Dunham on May 10, 1941. He was called up to serve in the Army in July of 1943. He served in the European Theatre of Operations as a Staff Sargent and Forward Observer in the 882nd Field Artillery Brigade. He was awarded the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster for heroic actions in France, treating and evacuating his wounded officer in charge while under heavy fire behind enemy lines to establish a forward observation post.

After separation from the Army in 1945, Bob continued in sales for Kraft Foods until entering the Northwestern School of Chiropractics and graduating in 1950. He operated practices in St. Paul, Minnesota and Red Lake Falls until 1963. He then moved his family to Northfield, Minnesota where he worked as the Assistant Director of Development at Carleton College. He was also elected as a City Councilman in Northfield. He completed his career as Director of Development at St. Joseph's College in St. Cloud, Minnesota from which he retired in 1980.

He and Nock then moved to Sand Springs, Oklahoma to spend their retirement years close to family.

He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, travel and spending time with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Through his life he enjoyed athletics, fishing, hunting, tennis, golf, and time with friends at the bridge table. His favorite days were ones spent with gathered family.

He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sand Springs and the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister Faith Stotko of St. Charles, Missouri, brother Bud as a casualty in Normandy, his wife Margaret of Sand Springs, and his daughter Bobbie Ladd of Buffalo, Minnesota. He is survived by his son Mike Baker and wife Barri of Sand Springs, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service is not currently scheduled and will be held at a later date.

His goodness and love will be greatly missed but will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
