Robert Merritt was born December 2, 1949, to Joann Hill and Bruce Merritt and passed from this life on May 10, 2023, at the age of 73.
Robert grew up in Tulsa, OK- off "The Line", attending Riley Elementary, Madison Junior High, and Central High School, class of 68. He met and married his high school sweetheart before joining the Marines. He was stationed in Japan during the Vietnam War and was set to carry out his service in-country and when his plane landed, the war had subsided.
He came back to Tulsa and started a family. He had 2 daughters, Elizabeth Binger and Katie Lewis, both from Sand Springs, OK. He remarried and had April Merritt, Broken Arrow, and Josh Merritt, Collinsville.
He worked at the Tulsa Stockyards, ONG, and was a machinist for many years at Baird Manufacturing. He retired from Whirlpool. He was an umpire for many years.
He enjoyed many hobbies: carpentry, mechanics, and cooking. His favorite hobby was gardening. He also loved to fish, hunt, and camp outdoors with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Gwen Merritt, and his brother, Scotty Merritt.
He is survived by his sisters: Karen, Janie, and Dorothy; his brother, Tommy; his children, stepson, Marc; grandchildren: Allen, Alex, Julia, Allison, Jacob, Ava, Gaitlin, Remington, Valorie, Hannah, and Abbie; and his great-grandson: Memphis.
