Ronald M. Collins, 76, of Owasso OK. passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, June 10th, 2018. To say he was a loving husband, dad and Paw-Paw just doesn't seem enough. Family was everything to him and there wasn't a time he wasn't there for any of us. Ron was born Dec. 4th 1941 and grew up in the Tulsa, Sand Springs area where he graduated from Charles Page High, class of '60. Ron started his career in the Air National Guard with the fire division, serving until he received an honorable discharge in 1967 as a Staff Sargent. Ron then found the job he was meant to have and joined the Tulsa Fire Department in 1966 and progressed his way to the rank of Deputy Fire Marshall of Tulsa before his retirement in 1988. Ron couldn't sit at home for long and went to work for St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa as the Fire Marshall in Risk Management, once retired from the hospital he went on to work for the State of Oklahoma as a Special Agent State Fire Marshall where he inspected state prisons across the state. Ron spent his life not only making sure his family was safe and protected but also the public as well. Ron met the love of his life in Tulsa at Barney's Drive In. They were married on April 27, 1963 and spent their early married years in Tulsa then went on to build their dream home in Sand Springs where they raised their 2 children. Ron was an avid sprint car race fan and attended the races religiously. You could find his family at the race track every Saturday night during racing season and as the years passed he started working at the races as their Fire Safety Manager. He started taking his granddaughter to the races when she was young and she became his race buddy and passed his passion of racing on to her. She has many great memories of her "Paw" at the track. When his grandchildren and great granddaughter started playing sports you would find him there cheering and encouraging them. (and slipping them some money for their hardwork) He was at every game he possible could. He cherished and loved the time he spent on family vacations at Panama City Beach watching his family on the beach and sitting on the balcony listening to the waves and watching for dolphins. Disney World was also a special place for him where he would sit on the "chicken bench" eating "ponkak" (popcorn) when one of his grandsons was too little or scared to go on a ride. His family was his greatest joy and accomplishment. He is greatly missed by his surviving family. His loving wife of 55 years, Cheryl Collins and mother in law, Viola Gillean of the home, daughter, Christy Collins of Skiatook, son Ron Collins Jr. and wife Jennifer (who was like a daughter to him) of Owasso. One granddaughter, Shandi Thompson and husband Jeff of Skiatook. 3 grandsons, Hunter Mason of Skiatook , Bailey and Parker Collins of Owasso. 1 great granddaughter Adilyn Addington of Skiatook and 1 step great grandson Geoffrey Thompson of Skiatook . Ron is also survived by his brother Jim Collins of Sand Springs and many nieces and nephews and extended family members. Ron was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Galela Collins and brother William (Bill) Collins.
