Sabra Martin of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away on Octobers 2019 after a long illness. She was born in Brisbane, Australia on July 3, 1943 to the late Lieutenant Colonel Charles Martin and the late Patricia Hetherington Martin. The family lived in Norman, Oklahoma before moving to Bellingham, Washington.
Sabra is survived by sisters: Cate Martin Franklin (Dr. Robert) Portland, OR and Dr. Elizabeth Martin of Shell Lake, WI; brother: Patrick Martin (Kim and sons Andy and Ryan) of Bellingham, WA; and her four-legged companion, Jack.
Sabra received her doctorate from the University of Oklahoma in Administration of Higher Education and Counseling. During her time at OU she coordinated the student dormitories and Directed Treatment Crisis Center. In 1969, the University of Tulsa recruited her for Dean of Women and teaching Women's Studies. In 1975, Sabra became Professor of Education at Washington State University at Pullman, Washington. In 1983, she redirected her professional career to work with the mentally ill. She returned to Tulsa as Coordinator of Patient Services and acting Director of Family Mental Health Center.
Sabra remained a dedicated advocate in the pursuit of parity and equality for women and girls. She is beloved by her many students, patients and friends for her support and encouragement as they worked to better their lives.
