Obituary

Stanley O'Neil Johnson of Mannford, Oklahoma formerly of Big Spring, Texas gained his wings of gold into the heavenly kingdom on Tuesday, August 1,2017 with his only child, Sheryl Ann Johnson-Kitchens holding his hand, son in law-Greg Kitchens baby brother Leon 'Eddie' Toone by his side. At Stanley's request, he was cremated a Memorial Service in Celebration of his life along with Military Honors is scheduled for Saturday, September 16,2017 at 2pm at Grace Fellowship Church of God, 703 Tulane Street, Big Spring, Texas with Pastor Steve Goud, Officiating. Stanley was born on July 13,1955, to Steve O'Neil Johnson currently of Bakersfield, Ca the late Pauline Lou Tidwell-Leach of Bakersfield, Ca. Stanley grew up in Bakersfield, California Harrah, Oklahoma. Stanley graduated from Harrah High School in 1973 where he was a member of the varsity basketball team being of the top leading rebounders scorers of all time. Upon graduation in 1973, Stanley joined the U. S. Air Force at the age of 17. His mother had to sign the release form for Stanley to join at such a young age. On June 4,1973, Stanley was sent to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas for 6 weeks of intensive training. Upon completion of his training, Stanley received orders to report to active duty at Webb Air Force Base in Big Spring, Texas. While living in Big Spring, Texas, Stanley attended College Park Church of God where a friend of his Brenda Weatherby would introduce Stanley to his future wife, Sylvia Ann Barber. This union would create the joy, the gleam, the sparkle in his eyes, his only child, Sheryl Ann Johnson-Kitchens. After moving several to from several different states, several tours thru several years, Stanley was Honorably discharged from the U.S Air Force on January 23, 1981. Stanley was given the Vietnam Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon. In 1981, Stanley his family left Aurora, Colorado to move back to Big Spring, Texas to be with family. Stanley attended Howard College earning his Associates Degree working part time for Jerry Worthy, Inc Fiber flex. Stanley eventually started working for the U.S. Postal Service in Midland, Texas. After several years he would transfer to the Big Spring U.S. Post Office retiring in 1995. In 2001 Stanley moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to be with his sister, Paula her family, his baby brother, Eddie his family. At the time of his tragic unexpected passing Stanley was still living in Oklahoma. Stanley loved the Washington Redskins was a hardcore Oklahoma Sooners fan. At his daughter's request Stanley was rebaptized on Sunday, July 30,2017 while in the hospital with his daughter by his side holding his hand, son in law, sister by his side holding his hand, brother in law brother all in attendance. Stanley is survived by the following: his only child, Sheryl Ann Johnson-Kitchens husband Greg A Kitchens of Big Spring, his 5 precious grandchildren he adored loved so much; Morgan Brooke fianc Josh Garner of Conroe, Tx; Kerigann Paige Kitchens, Kaelon Shaye Kitchens ,Kadyn Allen Kitchens, Koltyn Lewis Kitchens, all of Big Spring, Tx; great granddaughter he was so proud of cherished-Presleigh Brooke Garner of Conroe, Tx; his parents-Steve Betty Johnson of Bakersfield, Ca, his siblings; sister Paula Husband Les White of Oklahoma City, Ok ,brother Leon 'Eddie' Toone of Oklahoma City, Ok; sister-Karen husband Gary Lopez, brother Stephen Johnson wife Roxie, brother Bruce Johnson wife Dawn ,brother Brian Johnson wife all of Bakersfield ,Ca.; great aunt Juanita Tidwell of Oklahoma; special cousin Nugget Jones husband Charlie, Splendora, Tx; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; special best friends Harry Vela of Big Spring Tx Doug Keith of Tulsa, Oklahoma; special friend ex-wife, Sandra Casey Johnson of Llano, Tx, step sons-Bradley Hildebrand of Big Spring, Josh Hildebrand of Midland, Tx step daughter Brandy Sanderson husband James family all of Llano, Tx Stanley was preceded in death by; his mother-Pauline Lou Tidwell-Leach, step father-Tommy Leach, Grandparents-Thelma Burns husband, Henry Mattie Tidwell, Ray Johnson all of Bakersfield, Ca as well as many aunts uncles.
