Susan Hunt, 64, of Broken Arrow peacefully passed away on July 9, 2020 in her home surrounded by family and loved ones. Born November 28, 1955 in Elgin, Illinois, she was the daughter of Daniel and Kathleen Kolakowski. After moving to Oklahoma as an adolescent, she graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1978 with a degree in Accounting and eventually joined QuikTrip Corporation in 1990. Susan enjoyed a fulfilling 30-year career with QuikTrip and completed her tenure as Director of Store and Product Accounting.
Although the facts of her life provide an outline of Susan, they do not define who she was as a person. Anyone who met Susan never questioned the love she held for her children, and the pride she felt as a grandmother. She cherished the title of mother, and she lived to see joy light up in her granddaughters' eyes. Although asked to keep the secret of her first granddaughter's name prior to her birth, she could not contain her excitement, and when Susan stepped off the plane to meet her, she proudly wore a shirt proclaiming her granddaughter's name. Her second granddaughter became a lover of books, and there was not a week that went by that Susan did not send her a new book--the minutest bliss in others cultivated the greatest joy in her.
Susan truly lived for others, and she could (and did) make friends with every stranger she met. When she showed up early for dinner with her daughter, Susan sat at the bar to have a glass of wine while she waited. Her daughter walked into the restaurant to be immediately greeted by the warm and booming laugh of her mother. She had made new friends, and those new friends joined them for a dinner that lasted well into the evening. Where she walked, she left a trail of smiles, laughs, and forget-me-nots. Everyone was a friend. Everyone was family.
When it came to work, QuikTrip became more than a career--her colleagues became an extension of her family. Susan became something of a legend in her own right with her mantra: "There are no problems, only opportunities." In line with her belief that no one is a stranger, she always sought out new hires on their first day to meet them and make them feel welcome. If there were an "opportunity" to be had, Susan would burn the midnight oil so that her colleagues did not have to toil alone. Susan was more than a coworker. She was dedication and tenacity in their corporeal forms, and she will forever be remembered and treasured by QuikTrip and the QuikTrip family.
Susan possessed a poet's soul and a warrior's spirit. No words concocted by 26 letters will ever do the life she led and the legacy she left justice. Although her name will not be splayed across history books, her name will be engraved in the hearts of those who love her.
Survivors include her son and her daughter, 2 granddaughters, 3 sisters, and her mother.
A graveside service will be held at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, Oklahoma City, OK on Monday, July 13 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Tulsa Area United Way, 1430 South Boulder Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74119 in Susan's name.
