IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susan Jane
Kidd Diacon
July 23, 1932 – February 21, 2026
Susan Jane Kidd was born July 23, 1932, in Bartlesville, OK, to Robert Louis (R.L.) Kidd and Jane Ann Carpenter Kidd. She died February 21, 2026, in Tulsa.
As a child, Susan and family moved often with her father's Cities Service Oil Company career. One of her favorite childhood homes was on the 1500 block of Dewey in Bartlesville where she was one of 23 youngsters who lined the street. As a teen, Susan made wonderful memories at summer camps and took every style of dance offered at June Runyon School of Dance. Susan's father taught Susan, older sister, Louann, and younger brother, John, to sing Barbershop Quartet. The siblings were close, albeit with different personalities, but alike in their ability to cultivate friendships. They weren't strangers to strong opinions or immune to riotous laughter. Louann's children remember Aunt Susie's visits and hearing the sisters "cackle" into the wee hours.
In September 1950, Susan began her college years at Ward Belmont, Nashville. The next fall, she transferred to University of Colorado, Boulder, and pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. In September 1952, Susan transferred to Oklahoma A&M, Stillwater, and affiliated with the Stillwater Kappas. In her first month there she had a date with future husband, Floyd "Terry" Diacon, during SAE-KKG Dance Hour. Susan completed her B.S. in Home Economics at Oklahoma A&M College in 1954. She and Terry married September 22, 1954, at First Presbyterian Church, Shreveport, LA. They made their first home in Fort Leonard Wood, MO, where Terry was stationed. In 1956, daughter, Carolyn Jane, was born there. James Edward joined the family in 1961 in Ponca City, OK. The family moved often with Terry's career at Cities Service/CITGO, eventually settling in Tulsa in 1964. Susan's life included community volunteering, Cities Service Wives club, bridge, Kappa Advisory Boards for OSU and TU, and giving cooking presentations at McCartney's Grocery Store. Each activity enriched her life with lasting friendships.
Always a meticulous planner of holidays, celebrations and dinner parties, Susan maintained files of dinner guests and what she served. She was accomplished in knitting and needlepoint. When grandchildren were born, Susan relished her role as "Gran" to Abby and Sam. She and Terry played integral parts in their lives. Abby and Sam fondly remember boating, birthday parties, card games and 4th of July parades held at White Chapel on Grand Lake.
Susan and Terry were avid Oklahoma State fans. Their calendar revolved around trips to Stillwater for men's basketball games and post-season trips to Kansas City for the Big XII Men's Basketball Tourney. Susan, always adept in the latest technology and Apple devices, created a spreadsheet to keep her own stats during games. She and Sam waved at one another across Gallagher-Iba after every 3-point basket.
In 2009, Susan and Terry moved to Montereau where they enjoyed being near many new and long-time friends.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, Mary Marjorie Quigg Kidd, husband, Terry, and sister, Louann Kidd Stinson. She is survived by children Carolyn Jane Diacon Tobin (Charles) and James Edward "Jim" Diacon (Mary Angel); grandchildren, Abigail Jane Diacon (Hart Dubberstein) and Samuel Robert Diacon (Bailey Manula); great-grandson, Calvin Kidd Dubberstein (named in Susan's honor); brother, John Kidd (Phyllis); niece and nephews, Jane, Bob, John and Ted Stinson, Robert and Noel Kidd, and special nieces-in-law Lisa and Julie who all showered her with affection and visits despite the miles.
A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in her memory to OSU Foundation Nutritional Science Scholarship Fund (27-80600), PO Box 1749, Stillwater, OK 74076, First Presbyterian-Tulsa's TV ministry or charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at both Montereau and St. Francis Hospice for their exceptional care.
