Theodore John "T John" Suess was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He left this world October 8, 2021 at age 90 after a courageous battle with cancer.
T John was born to Ted and Helen Suess on October 19, 1930 in Lancaster NY. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1949, receiving accolades for his skill at nose tackle for the football team. He next attended University at Buffalo beginning pre-med studies while working and living at Catholic Saint Mary's hospital as an x-ray technician and oxygen therapist. He was drafted into the US Army in 1953 and served in the medical corps at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX.
He returned to Buffalo in 1955 after transferring into the Army Reserves and was soon hired by International Milling as Personnel Director in Buffalo. In 1957 they sent him to Minneapolis where he met Judie Bryant and they married in 1961 and had two sons, John and Jim. In 1967, he accepted a job as sales manager with Victor Comptometer Corporation in Kansas City where they had two more sons, Jeff and Josh. They then moved to Wichita where he served as branch manager for Victor.
In 1974, the family moved to Tulsa, OK when T John and family acquired ownership of Typewriter Service Company or TSCI as it became known as over the years the business shifted from typewriters, cash registers and adding machines to time clocks and parking control. TSCI was a family business and Judie helped with book keeping and the boys learned to fix any number of things, answer phones and make deliveries. T John, the ultimate salesman, wants you to know that TSCI is still thriving! If you have a service need, please reach out to the family and we will take care of you.
While in college, T John pledged Phi Kappa Psi which became a family tradition. All four boys, sons-in-law John and Jason Wittrock and grandson Jonathan all pledged at the University of Oklahoma. Each time a son became a brother. One of his great joys in life was being there when each son returned home to 'slip the grip' to the Reverend Richard W. Daniels, rector at Saint Dunstan's Episcopal Church, also a brother.
T John's sons were the best work of his life. He was a master diaper changer, entertainer, athletic director, coach and referee and who managed to never miss an event. He loved to play games, watch movies, have a catch and just be there. He was a steady, calming mentor with sage advice in times of turmoil.
T John is predeceased by his parents and sister, Carol Brickner, and husband Dale. In addition to his wife, Judie, he is survived by his sons, John of Tulsa, Jim and wife Debbie of Tyrone, GA, Jeff and wife Jayne of Okarche, OK, Josh and wife DeAnn of Sandy Springs, GA, a niece Deborah, grandchildren Emma, Jack, John, Sarah, Matthew, Jason, Justin, and Jonathan and great grandchild James.
A funeral mass will be held at 3 pm on October 23, 2021 at Saint Dunstan's 5635 E 71st St, Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Saint Dunstan's on his behalf at www.stduntulsa.org. Links to watch the service online can be found on the church calendar for viewing via Facebook or YouTube.
