Eleanor Keplinger Buck (97) died Nov. 14, 2015, in Tulsa, OK, following
a brief illness. She was a former resident of Johnson City.
Eleanor was born June 21, 1918, in the Conklin community of Washington
County. Her parents were David Frank Keplinger and Annie Ruble Keplinger.
She was a member of the Mt. Wesley Methodist Church in Conklin. Eleanor
was a graduate of Washington College Academy (Class of 1937) and Johnson
City Business College.
In 1945, she married Thomas Anderson Buck following his return from service
in Europe and North Africa during World War II. Tom died in 1990.
Her business career included employment at Holston Ordnance Works during
World War II, Washington County Register of Deeds Office, Bumpass Cove
Mines, Peoples Bank and Johnson City Eye Hospital where she retired after
20 years of service.
Eleanor enjoyed needlecraft, cooking, baking, gardening and growing flowers.
Best of all, she loved sharing the bounty of these activities with others.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her
brother, Kyle Keplinger and a son-in-law, David Greene.
Survivors include: Daughters, Ann Greene of Tulsa, OK, Helen Lyon and husband
Bob of Tulsa, OK, and son Dan Buck and wife Cheryl of Bristol, TN; grandchildren,
Daniel Greene of Charlottesville, VA, Rachel Greene Neaum of Cambridge,
England, Matthew Greene of Vail, CO, Rob Lyon of Dallas, TX, Jeff Lyon
of Denver, CO, and Amber White of Pacifica, CA, and six great-grandchildren.
Eleanor lived a long, full life guided by Christian teachings and values.
She was a faithful, loving wife; a devoted and caring mother; and a good
friend and neighbor. She will be missed greatly by those fortunate to
have known her.
A private memorial service will be held in Tulsa and interment will be
in Roselawn Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made
to the charity of choice.
