Planning a Memorial and Committal Service

When a loved one passes away, one of the things that will need to be done is to plan a memorial service. If they have opted for cremation services near Cleveland, OK , a commitment service may be necessary too. What is the difference between these two types of ceremonies? A memorial service is similar to a funeral, in that it may take place in a chapel or funeral home, and it often has someone to eulogize and possibly perform a religious service. It’s a way for family and friends to gather together and honor their loved ones, and begin the process of grieving their loss. It can be a time to share memories and reminisce, as well. Often, the family will bring photos and even a video that features snapshots from the departed’s life. While a memorial service won’t include a viewing, it can be seen as a way for people to say their final goodbyes. While a memorial service is quite common, they are by no means necessary or required. Whatever the family feels is right for them is the proper choice to make.

A committal service, on the other hand, normally takes place after the memorial service if there is one. These are generally where the cremated remains are interred or scattered, according to the wishes of the deceased. If they wanted their ashes to be buried or otherwise interred at a cemetery, the committal service would take place there. If they wished their ashes to be scattered in a certain place or place, that is where family and friends would gather. This ceremony can be a very meaningful way to say goodbye to a loved one.

When considering how to plan for a memorial service, the first thing to do would be to determine if the deceased had any pre-arranged plans or wishes. This is a good starting point to work from, and it may tell you where they wanted it to take place, who they wanted to officiate, and what kind of music or photos they wished to be included. Whether they wanted it at a place of worship, somewhere outside, or wherever else, this must be taken into consideration. You must also try to determine how many people will be present. This will affect where it can reasonably be held, as well. Do you want to provide food? Will it be catered or potluck-style? All questions must be answered. The funeral home you are working with can help you with all your planning, as well.

Direct cremation is a simplified option where the deceased is cremated shortly after death, without a formal ceremony or viewing. It tends to be more cost-effective and efficient, allowing families to focus on memorialization at their own pace. On the other hand, a cremation ceremony with family present provides an opportunity for loved ones to gather, honor the life of the deceased, and find closure through shared rituals and support.

Aquamation, also known as alkaline hydrolysis or water cremation, is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional cremation. While cremation uses intense heat to reduce the body to ashes, aquamation utilizes a combination of water, alkaline chemicals, and heat to accelerate the natural process of decomposition.
