Barbara Anne Hunt was born October 16, 1931 in Paris Texas to Thomas Charles
& Irene (Burnwatt) Hicks. Although born in Texas, she was a true Oklahoman.
Raised in Hugo Oklahoma she remembered as a young girl she and her family
would often go down to the train station and wave to the soldiers being
sent off to WWII. Later after moving to Tulsa Barbara worked at a young
age for the Draft Board as a Secretary where she would help our young
Soldiers enlist for the Korean War.
Barbara was a beautiful auburn red head who in her time, turned many heads.
She was the freshman Queen at Northeastern University and was also a Rainbow
Girl. One day, she turned the head of a man named James "Jim"
Hunt and they were married for more than 47 years.
Barbara and Jim had 4 children that Barbara was simply devoted to. Jim
worked for Swift Ice Cream Company and he and Barbara and their family
were forced to relocate often for his carrer growth and many times at
a moment's notice. Barbara had the amazing capability to be able to
handle the children, the household and many times a job of her own, yet
she could pack up the house and move and make it seem effortless. She
was strict, but kind and nonjudgmental and her children loved & respected
her for this.
Jim and Barbara lost a daughter, Jamie Sue in 1980 when Jamie was only
18. The third of their four children, the family was devastated. Somehow,
Barbara was able to go on, pull their family together and make a life
after this huge tragedy. Barbara found much comfort and enjoyment in music
and movies, she loved bird watching and sun-catchers. She was an amazing
seamstress and made most of the kids clothing as they were growing up.
Barbara enjoyed many things, but nothing brought her as much joy as her
only grandchild, Bob. The two seemed to have an instantaneous bond that
lasted her entire life. After Bob joined the military, when he would come
home on leave and the two would find themselves at a restaurant visiting
for hours. They both found much love and comfort in the incredible friendship
that they had developed.
Barbara is survived by; her three children, Jackie Hunt McManus, Terri
Sabados and her only son, James "Jim" William Hunt, Jr.; her
only grandchild, Robert James "Bob" Hunt.
She was preceded in death by; her parents; her husband Jim; and her daughter
